An increasing number of people is now practicing mountain biking as their favorite sport, in Mexico and other countries. Our Region offers beautiful natural landscape to enjoy while practicing this sport, that’s why we have developed a project to impulse this activity and to show our attractions for the bikers.

To strengthen all the activities included in the project, the regional bikers got together to form an association named “Ecotourism Promoter of La Laguna” which has the following goals:

1.- To promote and improve ecotourism in the region.
2.- To develop and manage the ecotourism areas in the region, keeping free access to them.
3.- To organize different ecotourism events and other activities that could help achieve the goals of the association.

4.- To support the development of the nearby communities related to the mountain bike sport.

5.- To promote, receive and motivate training for all the members and other people interested and / or related to ecotourism.

6.- To develop different projects to promote, maintain and invest in the areas and access paths.

7.- To encourage people to respect and take care of nature.

8. To establish alliances with other associations or any kind of group which also promotes ecotourism.

9.- To motivate and negotiate economic resources and support from the Federal, State and Municipal Government in order to achieve our goals.

Currently, we are promoting our first event called “Cardenche Mountain Marathon”, a 100k race crossing the cities of Torreón, Gómez and Lerdo and then into the Villa Juarez Valley, thru breachs of stone and gravel. The area offers funny descents surrounded by thorny plants, one of the main ones is named “cardenche”, a kind of cactus with thorns which look like fishhooks, making it the most dreadful to the bikers.

The race gets really difficult due to an important amount of ascents and descents, making it a great challenge to finish before the limit time of 10 hours.
